How can the degrowth movement overcome its Eurocentrism, shake off the hegemony of academic voices, and create the conditions for egalitarianism – where all voices can be heard on equal terms? How can we shift away from the valorisation and fetishisation of academic work – is it possible to decouple recognition from status and merit?
WCCA Director Emma River-Roberts speaks with scholars and activists Vlad Bunea and Félix Garnier, co-authors of an open letter calling for a more egalitarian degrowth (which can be read in full below).
They are joined by John Barry, Professor of Green Political Economy and Co-Director of the Centre for Sustainability, Equality and Climate Action at Queen’s University Belfast to discuss these pressing issues. At the heart of the discussion is the proposal for a Solidarity Fund – a fund that can support working class, global South and other under-represented voices to partake in the degrowth movement.
