WCCA Political Education Workshop: Climate Change and Migration

14th April 2025

Join us on April 30th, 5.30 – 7pm GMT for a workshop (over zoom) about climate change and migration, led by our Campaigning and Movement Building Lead Minhaj ul Arifeen. Click here for full details, and to register your spot on Eventbrite.

Climate change is no longer a distant threat – it’s reshaping lives, livelihoods, and landscapes today. Rising sea levels, extreme weather, and environmental degradation are forcing millions to leave their homes, creating a new era of climate-induced displacement. Yet, the voices of those most affected – migrants and displaced communities – are often excluded from the policies and narratives that shape their futures. This workshop confronts the urgent intersection of climate change and human mobility. Together, we will:

1) Examine the realities of climate-linked migration, moving beyond simplistic narratives of ‘crisis’ in order to centre justice and agency.

2) Explore strategies for organising migrant communities to advocate for their rights and resilience.

3) Reimagine solutions that prioritise solidarity, equity, and collective action in the face of displacement.

Whether you’re a researcher, organiser, or advocate, this space is for learning, challenging assumptions, and building power. Let’s shift the discourse from vulnerability to leadership – because those on the frontlines of climate displacement must also be at the forefront of the response. While there will be recommended reading prior to each session, if you don’t have the time to get through it please come along anyway!
