6th May 2026
Join us for the final session of our working class storytelling reading group series on Thursday 28th May 6pm-7.15pm BST (over zoom).
Throughout this series we have explored the role that storytelling has played in working class histories, strategies and cultural practices over time. Acknowledging that climate change is not just a problem of emissions but deeply embedded in all societal inequalities, we have looked at a broad range of areas that have been addressed by storytelling; classism, trade union organising, anti-colonial movements, linguistic imperialism and climate justice.
This session explores working-class storytelling through music – something that enslaved, oppressed, and working-class communities have long used to tell their stories and reclaim power. We will be joined by Nysha Chantel Givans, who will draw on her lived experience and the work of musicians to explore the crossover between education, storytelling, and music as protest.
