In January 2025 we co-edited a one-off, Just Transition themed edition of the Lumpen Journal with the Class Work Project.
Despite working class people being the central focus of the Just Transition, all too often their voices remain overlooked in conversations about it. This edition sought to address that imbalance by highlighting working class writers from across the Global North and Global South, including several of our own members. It presents workers’ perspectives alongside reflections on the transition and its effects on their communities.

We spoke with the authors of this online, one-off magazine (Degrowth Desires) as part of their investigation into desire as a central component to creating a degrowth vision that suits a diverse population.
The authors centre this question – and many others, around class and what desire looks like from a working class perspective.
The full introduction can be read on the Research and Degrowth website. And the magazine PDF is free to view here. Alongside speaking with us, thoughts were also contributed by Dan Evans, Martin Empson, Lorenzo Velotti, Matt Huber and others.
